Moving to, or living in Indonesia can be very stressful, first of all Indonesia is very rich with different cultures. All these different lifestyles might give you problems if you don’t speak their language. Luckily, there is one general language that all these people speak, Bahasa Indonesia.
Of course they might also understand English, but you will definitely have more success if you speak the native tongue of this beautiful country.

Learning Indonesian language does not require a new alphabet. Indonesian is easy for an English speaker because one does not have to learn a new writing system. It is not difficult to remember Indonesian words because many of the Indonesian words are borrowed from English & Dutch.
According to the Foreign Service Institute it takes about 36 weeks or 900 hours to become proficient in Indonesian. The fact is that it takes significantly less time to reach a basic conversational level.
We think that if you’re serious about learning Indonesian and put in 30 minutes to 1 hour every day, you should be able to hold basic conversations after 1 to 3 months, depending on how much experience you have learning foreign languages. And if you practice a lot with Indonesian people, of course.
This all depends on the way you like to learn a language. Basically it includes three steps:
Learn the most important words first.
Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Prepositions, and Adjectives;
Focus on making sentences from the start.
Start with the most important sentences in the present tense, gradually add past tense, later the future tense, and other grammar.
Keep yourself accountable, be consistent.
Many people try to learn a new language, but few eventually become fluent. Most of the time it’s a problem with motivation. PLS has a great curriculum that keeps you motivated to not only study the materials but also to try conversation outside the course.
